LET THE LORD GOD AWAKEN YOU

The Second Letter to the Ephesians

In Revelation 2, the Lord sends what could be considered a "second letter" to the church in Ephesus. While He praises their labor and steadfastness, He delivers a sobering warning: "You have fallen from your first love." It is possible to be active in ministry, attend meetings, and read the Bible, yet lose that fervent, personal love relationship where Jesus is number one in your affections. True spiritual health is not measured by outward religious activity, but by the warmth and devotion of your heart toward Christ.

Starting the Day with Jesus

The key to preserving this first love is to develop a habit of thinking of Jesus first thing every morning. Before you even get out of bed, spend 5 to 15 minutes talking to Him as a personal friend. Thank Him for His protection and meditate on His immense love for you. When you start your day with Christ, everything else—your work, your family, your responsibilities—will fall into its proper place. This simple discipline ensures that your priorities remain straight and your heart stays connected to its Source.

Waking to Listen Like a Disciple

Isaiah 50:4-5 provides a prophetic glimpse into how Jesus lived: "He awakens me morning by morning... to listen as a disciple." Jesus didn't just wake up to plan His day; He woke up to hear what His Father had to say. We should view our waking moments as an invitation from God Himself. When you wake up, realize that the Lord has specifically awakened you because He has something to tell you. Developing an ear that is open to His instruction is what transforms a namesack believer into a true disciple.

The 24-Hour Prayer Life

When Jesus said we should "always pray and not faint" (Luke 18:1), He wasn't suggesting we remain on our knees 24 hours a day. True prayer is maintaining a heart that is constantly open to God, even while we are working or performing our daily duties. Think of a policeman with a radio that is always on; he may be driving or performing other tasks, but his "ear" is always ready for a message from headquarters. This is the highest standard of the Christian life: living with a continuous, interior dialogue with the Lord.

Finding Your Own "Wilderness"

Jesus often went into the wilderness to find a quiet place to listen to His Father. While you may not live near a literal desert, your early morning bed can become your "wilderness." It is a place where you can be quiet, away from the noise of the world, and simply listen to what the Father is saying. This practice of daily listening and response is what sustains a vibrant spiritual life and protects you from the drift toward religious routine. Make it your goal to have an ear that is always open, recognizing that your life depends on every word that proceeds from God's mouth.

⏰ A Word to Remember

Our spiritual vitality is found in the daily habit of letting the Lord awaken our ears to hear His voice, ensuring that our lives are governed by His leading rather than our own routine.
