Fasting with a Purpose || Just a voice

“But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.”

Mark 2:20 BSB

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that is practiced by many. When questioned why His disciples didn’t fast, Jesus replied that as long as He was with them, it was a time for rejoicing. But He added that a time would come when He would no longer be physically present, and then His followers would fast.

Jesus Himself fasted, and He taught that we, too, would practice this discipline—not for show, but from a sincere desire to seek God. True fasting is not about outward appearances or religious duty. It’s about humbling ourselves, denying our physical cravings, and prioritizing God’s presence over even our basic needs. Fasting can also include stepping back from distractions like media, socializing, or entertainment. It’s not about ritual, but relationship—a way of saying, “Lord, I want more of You.” May we fast not from obligation, but from love and longing for Him.
